GLADWYNE, PA – Waverly Heights Retirement Community, a premier Continuing Care Retirement Community located in Gladwyne announced the formation of a Diversity Committee with the mission of fostering an environment of belonging for all community members.
The committee includes 10 employees and is co-chaired by Constance Dogan, Vice President of Environmental Services and Grace Bregman, Resident Services and Programs Manager. The group aims to tap into the unique perspective of community members to create an environment of understanding and support by recognizing, respecting, and valuing each other’s differences.
“I am excited to be a change agent and I want Waverly to be an example to other communities and organizations when it comes to diversity and inclusion. There is too much bad going on in the world, and I want to do what I can to change that and help represent the underrepresented,” said Dogan.
“I am encouraged that so many employees are invested in being part of the Diversity Committee and creating a safe, welcoming space for conversations around positive change,” said Thomas Garvin, President and CEO of Waverly Heights and a member of the committee.
Waverly Heights’ Diversity Committee will issue a quarterly newsletter to provide updates as well as inform and educate the residents and staff members.
One of the group’s first initiatives was to organize a food drive as part of Waverly Heights’ recognition and celebration of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. In January and February, the Diversity Committee collected canned and dry goods, paper products, and toiletries to benefit ElderNet’s Ada Mutch Food Pantry which provides food and supplies to low income seniors and disabled adults of Lower Merion and Narberth. Together, Waverly Heights residents, staff, and vendors of the community came together to donate more than 1,000 items to the Food Pantry.
